WOYWW 610

Hi hi!

It’s time for our weekly desk hop with with the lovely Julia. Of course firstly, we’re all sending our love to Shaz and her wonderful husband Doug. So many WOYWW Aunties putting their virtual arms around them both. This is such a wonderful little community and who would have thought such love and friendship can come out of being nosy about other crafters’ workspaces?

I thought this week I would show you a wider shot of my desk. You can just about see from the greenery outside the window that we are devoid of snow here. I’m 2 and a 1/2 storeys up from the garden (we’re on a slope) so I do get a lovely wide view when the sun isn’t blinding me in the afternoon!

My desk often looks too clear to be real so I thought I should come clean about the rest of my room! I don’t like clutter in my workspace so there are a lot of piles of stuff on the floor and on every other surface, and I do do other work here so I need to keep the actual desk fairly clear. The lights and tripod are for filming but I can’t quite get past the fear of it (I’ll come back to those fears in another post at some point). I did film myself once but there was a lot of boobage in the way so I’ve had to try and change the set up, hence having the tripod behind the desk.

There are actually 2 crafty projects on the desk today (sort of). The box with the magazine stuff in is for my One Little Word vision board. A few people commented about considering the class themselves and I would say go for it. It may be a year long but it’s only 12 parts spread over the year, it’s really not as intensive as it sounds. I tend to do a few minutes here and there at the moment and snipping relevant pictures and words out of magazines is an easy session. I’ve done this ever since I was a little girl funnily enough. I’m just waiting for my paint to dry on my backboards so I can start gluing stuff down.

Just visible in the wide shot is my spotty box of foam shapes which a few people commented on last week – the difference in depths evens itself out as I know a few people were getting a twitchy eye about it, and some people didn’t actually know what they were. They are little foam stickers for children to just peel and stick down and voila, a picture! Actually quite expensive too. But I’m a bit too controlling and didn’t let them have too many at a time, hence I still have some… still… I also bought some large foam shapes in the pound shop which do the same trick as pop dots but for a lot less money!

The little pile of scraps to the left is what I had left over from the kit I was using last week. I created another layout with it by adding in a 12×12 and then made myself throw all of these pieces out, except for the largest piece of blue. Normally I hoard scraps but honestly I can’t face having to file them and the probably never using them!

And here as promised, is last week’s #throwbackThursday layout.

I actually created this page back in 2013 and I shared it on WOYWW number 229!! I remember being quite pleased with myself for using Mod Podge and then PVA glue as an experiment to stiffen the denim fabric ready to cover the chipboard pieces with. Happy days!

Right oh, off to grab a cuppa and have a snoop. Join me if you like, we only bite when threatened.

Stay safe and keep smiling x

  1. Cool throwback piece Lisa-Jane – great idea for the denim. I am also nervous about filming and although I blog every day have never attempted it. Stay safe, Sarah #5

  2. One of my favourite layouts EVER is one I made at a crop (Julia’s crop, as it happens) where I used only the debris at the bottom of my rolling crop cart. Funny how inspiring rubbish can be LOL!

    Happy WOYWW!

  3. What a fab layout for the filming. I would not have the same problem as you – almost devoid of them. I have my other half standing with my phone for my video attempts.
I have no view, my room overlooks another so there is envy going on here for your beautiful view – it must inspire you.
Love the way you formed that first paragraph.

  4. You made me laugh there – I dread to think what would get in the way if I tried to film something, never mind boobage!! I do admire you for even considering it and your desk looks very professional with the lights/shields. That’s a great LO and I love the denim accents, I thought I’d have a try at PVAing some fabric and making a collage picture for my great niece.

  5. Morning Lisa jane. Oh my – what a great layout – all those years ago. I remember using pva spread really thickly to make a design for some leaves – also years ago – it ridged up just great to make the veins! Still have them somewhere… I also wouldn’t have the courage to film myself – I look bad enough when sitting back in my chair trying out a zoom call with the family.
    Take care. God bless.

  6. Hi Lisa Jane, been for the jab and I’m back. The whole thing was such a lovely experience and saw my doctor there who I haven’t seen for ages so it all felt very friendly and I’ve got a badge too Lol! The washi tape keeps being added to some of my projects as I go along. I’ve had ir ages and the only way it was going to get used was to keep it on the desk Lol! The lighting is brilliant and loving the layout too. Off to take my mum’s stuff to the Care Home now. Have a happy and creative woyww, Angela x18x

  7. Hi Lisa-Jane! I don’t believe we met before – I first joined WOYWW in 2014 so I must have missed your earlier stint and I’ve been AWOL for a few weeks now so I missed your return! I do like your lighting solution – I would be absolutely hopeless filming my process and people would be horrified at the way I do things – I’m so impatient, I just smudge glue and paints with my hands LOL – and spend half an hour looking for things in the messy heap on my desk! It just wouldn’t work – so I only do the occasional flip-through of my finished journals and my recording career pretty much ends there. Love the layout – such precious memories! Nice meeting you! zsuzsa (InkyDinkyDoodle) # 25

  8. Oh gosh I wouldn’t film myself straight on – desktop only (still get the odd boobage issue but at least no triple chins). Had just about got it mastered and did a few craft vids for my local library last year when my chest got very bad (not Covid, just a chronic cough I’ve had for years) and I stopped – no-one wants to hear me spluttering away!! I’m a lot better now so maybe I should re-visit that idea but got no drive o do it at the mo. Love your desk top – that would effect is so pretty. Stay well, stay safe, love n hugs Cindy xx #21

  9. Great post today , love the denim . Take care

  10. I chuckled at your boobage shots. Love the LO.
    Hugs,

  11. The desk looks great – very inviting and ready for a good craft session! The layout is fab too – your denim shapes look so professional – either you folded the fabric under the edges in which case they should look more bulky than that, or you cut the fabric around the edge of the shape in which case shouldn’t they be slightly frayed ?! Must say I’m very impressed!
Hope you have a good week, stay safe and well,
    Diana xx #21

  12. Filming is so challenging isn’t it – you have to get the angle just right or you are looking down a cleavage, the boobs fill most of the screen, or up the nose! I do a lot of filming these days for our online church services and almost never watch it back as I hate it! Love your throwback layout. Happy WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro xxx (#20)

  13. Lisa-Jane…you had me tickled with the “boob shot!” Too funny! I totally get it though. I have thought (then QUICKLY dismissed it *sweating*) a couple of times before about videoing, but my nerves catch me out every time!!! I just don’t think I could do it. I love to blog…although that took me a hot minute to get sorted out as well! I think if it’s really what you want to do, you’ll get it in the end….from the rears! LOLOL Love your layout! I think it’s classic and timeless, so it looks like you just did it! Stay safe and healthy! Felicia #30

  14. I still love the bit of twine or raffia tied around the initial, an idea that has stayed with me, you inspiration you! I don’t mind the filming of my hands so I think the tripod the other side of the desk would work for me! The biggest surprise is my voice. Ugh. To be honest, I think the fear of filming yourself is difficult to overcome if you’re not happy with yourself. Ask Caro, she’s absolutely amazing at selfie’s and vids etc on Facebook and on her blog, swimming costume at all. She’s not self obsessed or vain, I think she just genuinely doesn’t judge herself. A skill. Definitely to be discussed. After all,we all know you’ve got the talent in your crafting to make it worth filming you. When you say you’re on a slope, being 2.5 stories up…suggests a hill to me!! I think you really busted that kit, gracious, those few scraps would be in the bin without hesitation at this Workdesk! Have a good week gal. X

  15. Great page from the past ~ I like the works in progress on your desk and the banana for sustenance. Enjoy your week ~ Karen #28

  16. I don’t do a lot of videoing these days, Lisa Jane – I need a way to set up my iPad to do it because the editing is so much easier than the old-fashioned way with my video camera. I have got a pretty good setup for that, pointing straight down onto the desk with lights either side. Boobage! Love it! I did a series of photos of a project once, and part of it involved working on the floor because it was quite big, and in the shot were my 2 knees. When I looked at the photo it looked very like enormous boobage and I had to reassure people that it was my KNEES they were looking at, which caused a great deal of amusement!!

    Happy WOYWW,
    Shoshi #25

  17. Great throwback layout! I do live FB videos then save and upload to YouTube on my channel. No editing as I have no idea how. Oh well. Busy desk!
Thanks for popping by and have a great week!

  18. Thats a super space you have, i’d love to film and share what I get up to but just dont have the room for such things. You got some great scrap pieces there, such an inspirational mag, one of my favs. Best wishes this WoywW Tracey #36

  19. Love the layout its always nice to look back on things, It makes me what to get on with mine and think at some point I just might

    Take care and stay safe,

    Lilian B # 10

  20. Oh my first thought when I saw the box on your desk was – spray booth! I taped foldable sides on one of mine and use it as such, although it hasn’t seen the light of day for ages, must rectify that. Super LO and what you did with the denim, yet another source of inspiration for my scrapping. Thanks for the visit BJ#18

  21. Great layout. Having tried taking a film of my self crafting, it is so difficult to get the right angle. I ended up filming me holding my album up as I just could get the right angle to film it flat. I was using my mobile phone though. Happy WOYWW Angela #12

  22. Quite the set-up for filming! Looks complicated…Nice throwback page, it must be fun to look back through them! Thanks for your visit, have a good week, and stay safe, Lindart #32

  23. Filming is a tough one but your set up looks nice. I love those box lights. Thanks for the throwback layout. It still looks pretty good. Have a great week. Dorlene #33

  24. I am grinning because, I have a similar light set up ( for shooting cards) not me 🙂 and I can just imagine. Although, now that we have real internet I still intend to do a zoom thing one of these days. I love that you covered the chipboard with denim too Lisa Jane ~Stacy #37

  25. My hubby has told me to ‘find all I can about filming on youtube and then make a film of you crafting and making things’. Wowww! no way I said, but I did, film hubby cooking, years ago. but 2nd daughter who lives in USA, remarked, ‘you haven’t still got those old plates have you mum!!? ‘ so I stopped filming… but they are still there. No boobie mistakes, but there was nearly one, when I realised hubby was wearing his Michelangelo’s David, pinny! Oops! No I didn’t put that one on YouTube! Have a good week crafting! Stay Safe-Happy late WOYWW ((Lyn))#26

  26. Love the throwback Thursday LO…great idea with the denim!
