WOYWW 623

Hi hi!

I just about have a desk photo to share for this week’s What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday (details and linky over at Julia’s) after my trip to Wales. I was exhausted from the journey on Monday so Tuesday saw me unloading everything onto my desk and getting straight on with some crafting to cheer me up. I am working on 2 layouts on my desk here – the egg shape is auditioning papers and stencils (I’d love to know your stencil storage tips and tricks please!) and the intention is to use the spotty stencil all over the vellum with texture paste, for another iNSD challenge. I’ll then back it onto white cardstock because everything else went a very dodgy colour under the green vellum!

The embroidery threads are being used to stitch onto some starry patterned paper and to outline that little EPIC card you can see poking out from the green paper, ready for a layout about gaming. The stitching was the only crafty thing I took to Wales in the end and as you can see I didn’t finish it, even though I had extra time available as I wasn’t able to meet lovely Lunch Lady Jan after all. There was an absolutely horrendous storm predicted the day we were due to meet up on the beach and not only would it have been dangerous to drive but we wouldn’t have been able to hear each other speak with the wind! As it happened, the ‘storm’ in my part of Pembrokeshire was well within normal parameters… until I drove home on Monday. After 2 hours of driving I almost turned back. Lorries less than a foot behind me, hardly anyone with lights on, 3 accidents passed in along the M4 just on the Welsh side and 2 of those can only have happened a couple of minutes before I got there. Good grief I needed my day of crafting yesterday to make up for it!

I took this pic on Friday from the cliffs along the coastal path and it is the furthest / highest I have walked along the path for about 15 years so I was very proud of myself! The tide was mostly out – the right hand side of the horseshoe of water is where the estuary meets the sea, just past The Parrog, which is the smaller of the two beaches at Newport (not to be confused with Newport, Gwent, MUCH closer to England). To the left is Big Beach (Traeth Mawr) which takes me about 15 minutes to walk from one end to the other, hence the name. You can actually drive onto the sand at the back of this beach and I love to sit in the car, watching the waves but protected from the wind, reading or stitching or just planning future layouts. I have rather a lot to get through… oh yes… I definitely do…

Bye for now x

what a fabulous beach shot! Shame you couldn’t meet Jan. The weather and the drive home sounds horrendous. I store my stencils in their original packets and keep them in a box (on the floor like so much else here) “organised” by company. It works for me but i have a lot (a big lot) so when I look for one there is a lot of rummaging. Helen #5

SO glad you made it home safely Lisa-Jane, the journey sounds horrendous. I store my TH stencils on hooks next to my dask using book rings to keep them together. I have storage wallets for the A5 A4 and 7×7 stencils from Clarity which sit on book shelves. Hope the crafting has helped you recover. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #1

Hi Lisa-Jane, Lovely scrapping pages – I use a folder and plastic sleeves to hold my stencils – I have about 40 or so – but I just recently got a few Sweet Poppy metal ones which I have sorted out yet. See you next week at WOYWW for 12th anniversary – Cheers Maurs #11

It was just Sods Law eh? I’m really sorry we couldn’t meet up as well, keep fingers crossed for next time. Your journey sounds awful, I think we must have missed the worst driving home though the spray was horrendous at times. I’m glad you got back safe and sound and hope all the house stuff went ok. Lovely wide shot of your desk, it looks like you’ve been having fun!

The weather has been rather awful at times. And very difficult to see properly with the rain coming down and wipers going berserk! More rain forecast apparently ?. I have managed one trip along the canal with the scooter. I needed a push to get out of the mud in a few places! Happy WOYWW Angela #10

What shame you couldn’t meet up with Jan, and I’m glad you had an uneventful journey home despite the terrible conditions. There’s nothing like crafting to soothe the soul.
I keep my stencils in a large folder with 12 x 12 inserts, some of which are divided into four pockets so I can store the largest ones all together with my smaller ones.
Hope you have a great week,

What a lovely photo – what a lovely place to be able to walk.
How horrible lthough to witness accidents like that, bad enough passing one. I always wonder about the poor people and hope it is not too bad. Bothers me for ages.
I keep my A4 stencils in page protectors in a ring binder, also any border ones two to a page but I stick the cellophane cover they arrive in onto paper and then slide it/them in the page protector. The small stencils are kept in an old Amazon package that I painted and sort of re-jigged a bit.

What a shame you couldn’t meet up with LLJ! The weather sounds terrible and the road conditions dangerous – this is why I don’t like making plans – what sounds appealing in idyllic conditions can quickly turn into a nightmare under adverse circumstances. But there’s always next time! As for stencil storage – I just shove mine into a drawer dedicated to stencils – then again I haven’t got that many, so I can quickly flip through them to find what I need – and if I can’t, I just use another one! Lovely views on that coastal path! I haven’t been on one in years! I was hoping we might end up living closer to the beach, but we couldn’t be further away! Happy #623! xx zsuzsa #22

Loving the colours and variety of papers on your desk. Shame you couldn’t meet Jan, and that drive home sounds horrendous, no wonder you needed a relaxing day. Happy WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro xxx (#19)

The weather has been all over the place recently. We seem to be having March weather at the moment here. Pleased you enjoyed your time crafting but it was a shame you couldn’t meet up with LLJ. I sort my smaller stencils by make and keep them flat in a drawer but the larger ones are in a folder. Sending lots of woyww hugs, Angela x17x

Love the beach! I keep my stencils in box that looks a bit like a magazine holder only slightly bigger as it was a slipcase for photo albums, so it is just over 12″ and can take all sizes of stencils, then I just flip through them to find what I want. Elle #27

What a lovely view! Too bad you didn’t get to see Jan. Your trip home sounds scary! Nice to see you right back to work on your projects! I am between projects right now, but I have one rumbling in my head! Take care, Lindart #29

Hi Lisa Jane, Oooh what a view from your hike that looks so cool to see the beach from that angle 🙂 I am sorry you didn’t get to meet up with Jan, maybe next time? ~Stacy #28

Hi Lisa Jane – that’s a shame you couldn’t meet up with Jan, I’m sure you have would have had a great time! I love the photo of the horseshoe water/beach – it does look a lovely place to walk. I’ve no advice on storing stencils – mine are all in a box. I have bought a small album to store them in, just not got round to doing it yet. Have a lovely week, Heather xx #23

I’m sorry about the storm changing your Jan plan, and the weather for driving home- it is exhausting I totally get that. Took me longer than it should have to find the EPIC card, left me feeling a bit embarrassed!! I have resolved in the future to avoid LO challenges that included stitching. I’m impatient with it, and I just can’t see the point in the time it takes me!

A beautiful seaside shot, Lisa-Jane. Sorry you were so exhausted after the trip home but well done getting back into crafting again. The projects you’ve got lined up look very interesting. I love experimenting with different materials like that and seeing how they alter what’s underneath!

I store my stencils in transparent page sleeves in a loose-leaf ring binder. That way, I can turn the pages to find what I want, and they don’t tangle up with each other. I put a piece of paper behind each one so that I can see what it is.

    Happy belated WOYWW,
    Shoshi #24

A few weeks ago I would have said I haven’t got any stencils but! After a bit of a tidy up…(pushing things away from the door so I could get in and out) I found that some of those freebie stamps from mags also have stencils, so I now suddenly have about 10. Thinking I might use them on the ATC’s for next/this week! I’d love to swap, if you’d like to! Still hunting for postcards though! Sorry I’m soooo late! Stay Safe, keep crafting! Happy WOYWW ((Lyn)) #12
